Lips are the instruments of kissing, and many of us love a good snog. However, there’s a reason that a good pout is attractive; kissing serves a purpose and is a part of biological mechanism.
It appears that fuller lips and larger eyes are a result of natural oestrogen levels, which subconsciously indicate to a potential partner your degree of health and fertility. Innately, a more healthy, fertile partner is a more attractive one. Psychologists confirm that men find women with fuller lips to be more sexually attractive.
Due to the fact that the lips are an erogenous zone, the act of kissing itself causes the brain to produce several hormones involved in attraction and love, to give you that warm, fuzzy, gooey feeling. When we kiss we cause the following hormones to be released:
- Adrenaline – causing your heart to race initially
- Dopamine – causing an intense rush of pleasure, improved mood and less need for sleep 😉
- Serotonin – positively affecting your mood, helping you sleep and stay calm, and avoid depression.
- Oxytocin – helping to develop feelings of attachment, devotion and affection for one another
O, how ripe in show thy lips, those kissing cherries, tempting grow.
William Shakespeare - A Midsummer Night's Dream
The skin of our lips is simply mucosa layered upon muscle, and is more delicate than most other areas of our body. There aren’t any bones in our lips, and our facial muscles determine the position of our lips, and underlying collagen content determine the degree of plumpness . As we age, this already thin skin layer becomes progressively thinner, our muscle tone reduces, and collagen content diminishes. The result is visibly thinner looking lips.
So what do your lips say about you?
Whether you want to make yourself look more attractive and kissable, boost those happy hormones, or restore your lips to their former glory, then you might want to consider subtly enhancing their appearance with some injectable fillers. Enhance or rejuvenate your pout!
